What sizes were NW Fund grants?

The Northwest Fund for the Environment was founded in 1971 and initially functioned primarily as a pass-through organization to allow small groups to receive tax deductible funding from many grassroots supporters.  In the early eighties, as tax law evolved, the NW Fund was no longer needed.  It responded by becoming inactive for several years.  In the mid-eighties, it was reactivated to evaluate requests and make grants from an annual donation.  In 1994, change came again and the NW Fund received a major bequest, becoming a private foundation with an endowment.
This report, which has previously been published in 1995 and 1996, documents how the NW Fund is meeting the needs of citizens to protect the natural environment of Washington State.  This year, the report emphasizes the evolution of the fund's grant making from 1995 to 1997.  The report describes primarily details of the grants awarded; some information about grant requests can be found toward the end of the report.
